Overview

FM2PROF is a tool that bridges the gap between detailed 2D hydrodynamic models and efficient 1D hydraulic models by automatically extracting cross-sectional geometry and roughness parameters from 2D FlowFM simulation results. Unlike approaches based purely on Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), FM2PROF uses actual flow patterns from \ 2D simulations to distinguish between active flow zones and dead zones, compute effective friction values that account for complex hydraulic behaviour, and generate storage-conveyance relationships that accurately represent real-world conditions. You provide cross-section locations and 2D model results (FlowFM map files), and FM2PROF generates output files compatible with D-Flow 1D (SOBEK 3) and D-Hydro modelling platforms.
